A Firm Foundation

As I sit here in my new temporary office at 7577 Wallace Drive, I can see the freshly dug foundation hole just outside my window as the last light of the Sun fades.  I am reminded of how important a firm foundation is.  Without a solid foundation, our new building would be doomed to fall.
Our Christian lives can be just like that.  Without a firm foundation we are setting ourselves up to fall.  Jesus told a story like that once.  You know the one.  There was a wise builder who built on solid rock and a foolish builder who built on the sand.  When the wind and waves came, the wise person’s house stood firm and the foolish person’s house went splat.  So Jesus tells us that in the same way we need to make sure we build our lives on a solid foundation so we don’t go splat.  And just what is that foundation?  Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24).
Jesus’ words are the foundation on which we must build our lives upon.  This past Sunday I encouraged people to read through the Gospels again if it had been a while and here is one more reason to do so.  If you want to build your life on Jesus’ words, you need to know what Jesus said.  So as you make your way through Matthew, Mark, Luke and John prayerfully consider every word our Lord says and every lesson He teaches and ask Him to give you strength to build your life on that foundation.
